Caption: Tupolev Tu-2000 concept aircraft. Model of the Tupolev Tu-2000 hypersonic aircraft, proposed by the Tupolev design bureau. This spaceplane design was intended to have been built in two versions powered by turboramjets and rockets. One was a long-range bomber, flying up to 10,000km at speeds of up to Mach 6 at an altitude of 30,000 metres. The other was an orbital spaceplane capable of delivering payloads of up to 10 tonnes into low-Earth orbit. Originally designed for the Soviet Union, development then continued for use by the Russian Air Force until it was eventually cancelled in 1992. Photographed in Russia.
