Caption: Mathematical series. 18th-century journal page with Latin text and notation on the summation of infinite series. This is part of a paper by the French mathematician Pierre Raymond de Montmort (1678-1719). This page is from a 1721 republication. The original paper appeared in 1717 in volume 30 of 'Philosophical Transactions', published by the Royal Society of London. The original title was 'De Seriebus Infinitis Tractatus. Pars Prima. Auctore Petro Remundo de Monmort. R. S. S.' Montmort was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1715.
