Caption: Solar eclipse predictor. 18th-century journal page illustrating a mechanism designed to exhibit the time, duration and location of solar eclipses seen from the Earth. This mechanism was designed by the Scottish astronomer James Ferguson (1710-1776). This page is from volume 48 (1753-4) of the journal 'Philosophical Transactions', published by the Royal Society of London. Ferguson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1763.
