Caption: Electrical machines. 18th-century journal page showing electrical machines designed by the German physicist Johann Heinrich Winkler (1703-1770). This page is from volume 10 of the 1756 edition of 'The Philosophical Transactions', an abridged collection of papers from the Royal Society. The original paper published by Winkler in 1747 in volume 44 of 'Philosophical Transactions' was in Latin. The 1756 publication was a translation into English. Figure 18 (top) relates to a different paper. Winkler was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1747.
