Caption: Botanical illustrations. 17th-century journal page illustrating various plants. These include (numbers in brackets are the page figure numbers): an English truffle (158, upper right); melon shoots (159, below truffle); a 'Tartarian lamb' (160, top left); a cantara (or Catolongay) plant (164, centre left); and a coffee plant (165, main illustration). This page is from volume 2 of the 1749 edition of 'The Philosophical Transactions and Collections to the End of the Year 1700', an abridged collection of 17th-century papers from the Royal Society of London. Some of the observations were by the English collector Hans Sloane (1660-1753).
