Caption: Eustachian tube syringing. 18th-century journal page illustrating a method used by the London surgeon Jonathan Wathen to restore the hearing of those deafened by blocked Eustachian tubes. The dissection of the skull at left shows where the syringe is inserted. The Eustachian tubes (one for each ear) run from the middle ear to the throat. This page is from volume 49 (1755-6) of the journal 'Philosophical Transactions', published by the Royal Society of London.
