Caption: Winged yellow meadow ants swarming over a flowering plant. Yellow meadow ants (Lasius flavus) are rarely seen, as they feed on honeydew from aphids bred in their underground nests. However, the winged forms (alates) emerge on warm days and evenings in July and August. Photographed in July, in Dorset, UK.
