Caption: Norman Foster Ramsey Jr (1915-2011), American physicist with molecular beam equipment. Ramsey was awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention of a technique that measured the electromagnetic radiation frequencies most readily absorbed by atoms and molecules. This work lead to the development of the atomic clock. Photographed at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, in 1952.
