Caption: Robonaut 2 on the ISS with European Space Agency astronaut Paolo Nespoli (Italian, born 1957). Robonaut 2 is a humanoid robot being developed by NASA and General Motors for extravehicular activity (EVA) tasks. It is remotely controlled using a telepresence control system. It was flown to the International Space Station (ISS) by mission STS-133 in February 2011, and was powered up for the first time in August 2011. Nespoli was the flight engineer for the Expedition 26/27 crew on the ISS, and was in orbit from December 2010 to May 2011. Photographed in the Destiny laboratory of the ISS on 15 March 2011.
