Caption: Russian ISS astronaut, July 2011. Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Samokutyayev (born 1970) on board the International Space Station (ISS). He was on board the ISS as one of the flight engineers for the Expedition 27 and 28 crews, and was in orbit from April to September 2011. Here, he is handling a Biorisk-MSN experiment container while in the Zvezda module of the ISS. The Biorisk experiment has been ongoing since June 2002, looking at the effects of microbes on the materials used in spacecraft, and the effects of solar activity on microbes in space. Photographed on 21 July 2011.
