Cape Verde is an archipelago of ten volcanic islands located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Africa. The islands are divided into two groups, the Barlavento (windward) islands (across top) and the Sotavento (leeward) islands (across bottom). Image obtained by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite.
