Caption: Child during London bombing, Second World War. Abandoned boy holding a stuffed toy animal amid ruins following German aerial bombing of London during the Second World War (1939-1945). This photograph was taken in 1945 by the US photographer Toni Frissell (1907-1988). By this period of the war (1944 and 1945), the German military had begun to use the V-1 flying bomb and the V-2 rocket, both of which caused large amounts of destruction and loss of life. Many tens of thousands of children were abandoned, orphaned, or separated from their parents during the Second World War.
