Caption: Boeing 747-8 inboard engine with cowling open for maintenance. This is a General Electric GEnx engine, four of which power the 747-8 airliner. These next-generation engines feature weight-saving items such as sculpted fan blades made from composite materials (black), each with a titanium leading edge (silver-grey). The engine has a fan diameter of 2.7 metres and generates up to 296 kiloNewtons thrust. Photographed at the 2011 Paris Air Show.
