Caption: London Weather Centre roof. Met Office employee telephoning observations from the roof instruments to the forecast room in the London Weather Centre, Penderel House, High Holborn. In order to obtain good exposure, the roof instruments were installed on the nearby State House. The London Weather Centre, which opened in 1959, had moved here in January of 1965, the year this photograph was taken. It was part of the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. The London Weather Centre was at this location from 1965 to 1992. State House was demolished in 1990.
