Caption: Ichthyostega. Computer artwork of a submerged Ichthyostega about to eat a drowned centipede in a floodplain, around 350 million years ago during the Late Devonian period, in what is now the Canadian Arctic. Ichthyostega was one of the earliest tetrapods and among the first terrestrial vertebrates. It was a descendent of lobe-finned fishes and ancestor of amphibians.
