Caption: Met Office communications. Met Office worker monitoring radio broadcasts and fax machines. These are Mufax machines, an early type of fax (facsimile) machine designed to send and receive weather charts. Transmission was via a radio signal that carried the information needed to print a duplicate copy of the original chart. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. A variety of communication methods have been used during its history, and fax machines like these were developed during the 1960s.
