Caption: Electric spark, 19th-century artwork. This spark, from the positive pole of an electrical apparatus, was imaged during experiments carried out in 1894 to photograph electric sparks. The equipment used here included photographic plates, Leyden jars and Wimshurst machines. Artwork from the 13th volume (first period of 1894) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
