Caption: Furze Platt hand axe. This hand axe was produced by the Acheulian culture about 400,000 years ago, during the lower Palaeolithic. It is a large hand axe, measuring 30.6 centimetres long and weighing 2.8 kilograms. It was found in Britain in 1919.
