Caption: Baryonyx fossil excavation site. Palaeontologists from the Natural History Museum, London, UK, working to excavate the fossils of a previously unknown dinosaur. This dinosaur would be named Baryonyx walkeri after its discoverer William Walker. These fossils were found in 1983 in clay pits near Dorking, UK, and were excavated by a team led by Alan J. Charig and Angela C. Milner. Baryonyx was a fish-eating carnivore that lived around 130 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period. Other Baryonyx fossils have since been found in Spain and Portugal. Photographed in 1983.
