Caption: Black scab infection. Light micrograph of a section through a potato infected with black scab (Synchytrium endobioticum) fungus. This fungus infects tubers, causing warty hypertrophy (enlarged cells). The cells balloon out and later turn into sporangia (pink patches), which contain numerous spores. Magnification: x4 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
