Caption: Petrified tree trunks. Most of the specimens here date from the Upper Cretaceous (100 to 65 million years ago) and are fossilised trunks of Araucarioxylon conifer trees. The location is Bosque Petrificado Puyango in Loja province, south-west Ecuador. Puyango is considered one of the most important deposits of petrified trees in the world.
