Caption: City centre trolleybuses. Trolleybuses are zero-emission electric vehicles that run on wheels rather than rails, and are considered an environmentally friendly alternative to cars. Here, electric power is drawn from overhead cables. These trolleybuses are part of the public transport system in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Trolleybuses were first used here in 1940, gradually replacing the tramway system. These trolleybuses, manufactured by the Hess company, are passing through Place Pury in the city centre, and were introduced in the period 2009 to 2011. Photographed in May 2011.
