Caption: Teller and Breit, US theoretical physicists. At left is Hungarian-US physicist Edward Teller (1908-2003). At right is Russian-born US physicist Gregory Breit (1899-1981). Breit had for a time been part of the Manhattan Project in World War II to develop the atom bomb. He resigned his position in 1942, the same year Teller joined the project. Teller went on to develop the hydrogen bomb. Photographed at the International Theoretical Physics Conference on Particles and Fields, at the University of Rochester, New York, USA. This conference (28 August to 1 September 1967) was attended by over 300 researchers from 30 countries.
