Caption: Water strider fossil. Fossil of a Chresmoda obscura water strider dating from the Jurassic period (around 200 to 145 million years ago). Chresmoda obscura had long protruding legs (seen here), which it used to move across the water just like modern water striders. This specimen is from Jurassic sediments at Solnhofen, Bavaria, Germany, and has a wing span of about 50 mm.
