Caption: Atacama night sky. Fish-eye lens view of the stars and constellations above a road in the Atacama desert of Chile. The Milky Way, our galaxy seen from the inside, is the band of stars and nebulae at left. At right are the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds. This is the road to Cerro Armazones, the site for the future giant European telescope, the 42-metre EELT which will be the world's largest telescope. Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky is at left. Canopus is the other bright star at centre. The Large and Small Magellanic clouds are at upper right.
