Caption: When light is reflected from the two surfaces of a very thin film of varying thickness, an interference pattern, similar to that of Newton's rings, is produced. Wherever the two reflected waves are in phase, bright areas appear. Where the difference in phase is one-half wavelength, dark areas are produced. Air wedge interference can be used to measure the wave length of light.
