Caption: Acid-base titration experiment to find the volume of acid that neutralizes an alkaline solution. The alkaline solution is in the conical flask (lower left) and its alkalinity is indicated by the use of a pH meter (measuring a pH over 14: strongly alkaline), instead of colour change by a chemical indicator. The acid is in the burette, the volume- measuring apparatus held over the flask. The tap (centre left) is used to add acid until the pH is neutral (pH 7). The measured acid volume is compared to the known volume of alkali, giving information on reaction chemistry and chemical concentrations.
