Caption: Second-line drugs for tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Selection of drugs that are used to treat TB, including Amikin, Avelox and ciprofloxacin. Second-line drugs are used when the bacteria have become resistant to, or the patient is unable to take, the first-line drugs. TB is cased by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is spread by coughing and sneezing. It infects the lungs creating primary tubercles, nodular lesions of dead tissue and bacteria. The bacteria may enter the blood or lymph system and spread to other organs of the body.
