Caption: Eastern hemisphere. 1786 map of the Old World (Earth's eastern hemisphere) with exploration routes and dates. These include the three voyages of Captain James Cook (1768-1780), and the associated voyages of Tobias Furneaux and James King on the second and third voyages. In the Arctic, Giles's 1707 sighting of land is shown near Constantine Phipps's 1773 route to Spitsbergen. This is the third edition of this map, produced by the British Royal geographer William Faden (1749-1836) and published in London 'according to Act of Parliament' on 1 December 1786. For the western hemisphere, see C012/1765.
