Caption: Ilya Repin (left) and Ivan Pavlov, photographed together in 1924. Ilya Yefimovich Repin (1844-1930) was a Ukrainian artist, noted for his realistic depiction of events portrayed with great psychological depth. His work was influential on the Soviet social realism movement. Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936) was a Russian psychologist and physiologist. His most famous work was on the reflex actions in animals, notably the idea of conditioning of reflexes by repeated reward or punishment stimuli. Pavlov won the 1904 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.
