Art studio. At left, surrounded by sculpted busts and figures in front of a window, is a man seated at a table reading a book. At right are painters, assistants, teachers and pupils, one seated at an easel. At centre is a celestial globe. The group in the background at upper right are gathered around a figurine. This artwork, titled 'Art', is part of the paired artworks titled 'of Art and Science'. An oil-on-canvas work, mounted on board, it is after an earlier artwork by Flemish painter Gerard Thomas.
