Medical alchemist. The woman seated beside him waits for the results. In the foreground an assistant is tending to a furnace, using bellows to increase the temperature of the fire that is providing heat for a distillation is in progress (above assistant's head). On the floor (lower right) are a mortar and pestle, books, glassware, and a manuscript with alchemical symbols. This artwork, titled 'The Medical Alchemist', is an oil-on-copper work by Austrian artist Franz Christoph Janneck.
