Caption: View of the three types of magnets employed in the PETRA accelerator (see description to A088/027) for details). At right is part of one of the long, red, dipole magnets used to bend the particles as they travel round the ring. Next to it at left is a square quadrupole magnet and next to that a smaller sextupole magnet, both of which are used to tightly focus the bunches of particles as they pass. The beam pipe itself travels through the magnets. (May '84)
