Caption: Artist's concept of single cell injection. Researchers have developed a way to produce sharp fluid jets with enough precision that they can inject material into a single living cell. A laser heats the molecules of the material to be injected causing tiny bubbles to form and break. When two bubbles form together they break with enough force to form a jet capable of piercing the cell membrane, injecting the fluid.
