Caption: Isaac Konstantinovich Kikoin (1908-1984), Lithuanian-Soviet physicist. Kikoin, a member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, was one of the founders of the Kurchatov Institute near Moscow and a leading figure in the development of the first Soviet nuclear reactor and the first Soviet nuclear bomb. He was also a co-founder of Kvant magazine, a popular science title published since 1970. Photographed in 1963, at Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia.
