Caption: The crews of the US-Soviet Apollo-Soyuz Test project (ASTP) seen during an event for the 35th anniversary of their flight. From left to right they are: Valery Kubasov, Aleksei leonov, Tom Staffor and Vance Brand. The other crew member, Deke Slayton, died in 1993. The ASTP mission flew on 15th July 1975, with the Apollo and Soyuz craft launching from their respective countries and docking in orbit. The Soyuz 19 craft returned to Earth on 21 July, the Apollo on July 24. ASTP laid the foundation for future cooperative projects such as Shuttle/Mir and the International Space Station.
