Caption: Apollo-Soyuz Test project crews. Crews of the US-Soviet Apollo-Soyuz Test project (ASTP) during a parade in Chicago, USA, after their mission. In the front car are the two mission commanders, Tom Stafford (left) and Aleksei Leonov. In the rear car are (left to right) Donald 'Deke' Slayton, Valery Kubasov and Vance Brand. The ASTP mission flew on 15th July 1975, with the Apollo and Soyuz craft launching from their respective countries and docking in orbit. The Soyuz 19 craft returned to Earth on 21 July, the Apollo on July 24. ASTP laid the foundation for future cooperative projects such as Shuttle/Mir and the International Space Station.
