Caption: Soyuz-19 crew after landing. Soviet cosmonauts Alexei Leonov (born 1934, centre) and Valeri Kubasov (1935-2014, left) after to the successful landing of their Soyuz-19 spacecraft on 24th July 1975. Soyuz-19 was launched as part of a joint project between the USA and the USSR - the Apollo-Soyuz Test project (ASTP). It successfully docked with the American Apollo 18 spacecraft in orbit on 17th July 1975. The programme was intended to test a jointly-designed international docking mechanism. The US crew consisted of Thomas P. Stafford, Vance D. Brand and Donald K. Slayton. Leonov and Kubasov landed safely near Arkalyk, Kazakhstan.
