Caption: Otto Bader (1903-1979). Close-up of the Soviet archaeologist Otto Bader. Bader, a German-born archaeologist and palaeontologist, worked with the USSR Academy of Sciences in the mid-1950s and 1960s. He and his team of archaeologists excavated several important palaeolithic sites, including Sungir and Kapova Cave. Bader also worked at Perm State University (later Saint Petersburg State University). His son, Nikolai Bader, was also an archaeologist.
