Caption: Soyuz-19 crew landing. Descending module containing the crew of the Soyuz-19 spacecraft, Soviet cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valeri Kubasov. Soyuz-19 was launched as part of a joint project between the USA and the USSR - the Apollo-Soyuz Test project (ASTP). It successfully docked with the American Apollo 18 spacecraft in orbit on 17th July 1975. The programme was intended to test a jointly-designed international docking mechanism. The US crew consisted of Thomas P. Stafford, Vance D. Brand and Donald K. Slayton. Leonov and Kubasov landed safely near Arkalyk, Kazakhstan. Photographed on 24th July 1975.
