Caption: Solar eclipse, Arch Rock, Nevada, USA, composite image. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes across the Sun as seen from Earth. This only occurs at New Moon, and is most commonly a partial eclipse. Here, the setting eclipsed sun has been composited with an image of Arch Rock, an eroded rock formation in Nevada's Valley of Fire. The images used in this montage date from 2007 and 2003.
