Caption: Diademed sifaka (Propithecus diadema) leaping on the ground. This lemur is found in eastern and north-eastern Madagascar. It is one of the largest of the lemurs, with a body length of up to 55 centimetres. It feeds on leaves, seeds, fruits and flowers. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. This one is also known as the diademed simpona. It is an arboreal species, rarely seen on the ground. Photographed at Vakona Lodge, Perinet Reserve, Madagascar.
