Caption: Spektr-R space telescope launch. Zenit-3M rocket, with a Fregat-SB upper stage, carrying the Spektr-R space telescope, being transferred to the launch complex of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. Spektr-R, part of the Radioastron programme, was launched on 18th July 2011 and is studying objects in radio wavelengths with a resolution far higher than previous telescopes. This high resolution is achieved by combining orbital observations with ground-based telescopes and using interferometry methods. Photographed on 16th July 2011.
