Ptarmigan tracks in snow, Cairngorm mountains, Scotland. The ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus) is a bird adapted to living at high mountain elevations, with a brown plumage in the summer and a white plumage in winter. These tracks are on snow on the mountain Ben Macdui. This view looks north across Coire Sputan Dearg (the corrie associated with this mountain ridge) to the peak of Beinn Mheadhoin (1182 metres).
