Caption: Chest muscle. Computer artwork of an oblique anterior view of one of the muscles (red) of the chest and shoulders and its attachment to the bones of the back and ribcage. This is the pectoralis minor muscle, which runs from the third to fifth ribs to the coracoid process of the scapula. Used to pull the shoulder downwards, this muscle is smaller than and lies under the pectoralis major muscle (not shown). Also shown here are the bones of the ribcage and spine, and the clavicles (collar bones) across the top of the torso. Down the centre of the ribcage, the costal cartilages (pale) enable the chest to expand during breathing.
