Foot ligaments. Computer artwork of an oblique anterior view looking up a human leg, showing the bones and ligaments (white) of the ankle and foot. Ligaments are fibrous bands of connective tissue that hold together the bones of a joint. On this inner side of the ankle, they are seen attached to the lower end of the tibia (shin bone), joining the many small bones within the ankle, and forming transverse bands connecting the metatarsals. The phalanges of the toes are at right. The sole of the foot includes the plantar fascia (white), a supportive layer of fibrous connective tissue. The bones of the leg and pelvis are at top.
