Caption: Timelapse footage of the night sky in motion above the ALMA radio telescopes, in Chile. These telescopes are located at an altitude of over 5,000 metres, on the Chajnantor Plateau in the Chilean Andes. The dark site's rarefied atmosphere, at about 50% sea level pressure, is also extremely dry. This makes it ideal for the Atacama Large Millimeter submillimeter Array (ALMA). By 2013 there will be 66 radio telescopes on this site, each 12 or 7 metres in diameter. ALMA is known as the world's largest ground-based astronomy project, now involving many countries. Filmed in November 2011.
