Caption: Calmodulin-MLCK complex, anaglyph 3D animation. Clip 8 of 10. This clip forms part of an animation sequence showing protein interactions within a dividing cell. This clip shows the protein calmodulin (CaM, calcium-modulated protein) in its calcium-bound state (CaCaM, right) approaching the MLCK (myosin light-chain kinase) enzyme (left). The binding of CaCaM to MLCK will activate the enzyme and initiate myosin contraction. The small fast-moving objects are ions and other molecules in the surrounding cytoplasm. The full sequence of ten clips shows the interaction between the protein calmodulin (CaM, calcium-modulated protein), calcium ions, MLCK, and the actin-myosin bundles of the cell's cytoskeleton, resulting in contraction of the membrane and cell division.
