Caption: Swallow-tailed gull on rocks. Swallow-tailed gulls (Creagrus furcatus) live only on and around the Galapagos Islands off the west coast of South America. They are largely nocturnal seabirds, feeding by night on prawns and other crustaceans which rise to the sea surface after dark. They live in colonies on cliffs and rocky coastlines, protecting their eggs from predators by day. They often fly many miles out to sea to hunt and may reach a length of around 50 centimetres.
