Caption: Obestatin molecule. Computer artwork showing the structure of a molecule of obestatin. Obestatin is thought to supress hunger and reduce food intake, thereby reducing weight gain. However, its effect on food intake is contested and remains controversial. It is derived from the same gene that encodes the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin. Atoms are colour coded spheres - carbon: large grey, hydrogen: small grey, oxygen: red, nitrogen: blue.
